This series of images speaks to the shared deeper part of ourselves, exposing what lies as well as what lies within. To do this, I have documented, on site, objects I’ve found in various places, and then, as a painter might, intuitively worked on the digital files in various ways to create a ‘portrait.”
Dolls and figurines are perfect totems or talismans that draw us in initially by their appearance and then often resonate with energies absorbed as they age, as objects of play, or by virtue of familiar placement within a home. Sometimes love, feelings of nurture, or the positive power of healing emanate from objects, and sometimes fears, menace, and pain are trapped within.
I’m intrigued by the power of certain images to unearth deep-seated feelings and associations and bring a fresh awareness and even understanding to emotions we’ve been afraid to confront.
